5 Day Celebrate Love Valentine’s Challenge!
I love Valentine’s Day!
But this hasn’t always been the case. During high school, I went to an all girl school and I would listen to the girl’s talk about what their boyfriends gave them or worst yet watch as they received flowers delivered right to our school.
And then there was the year my Dad tried to make me feel better by having flowers delivered to my school too, but the flowers never showed.
So on top of the typical disappointment, I had to face my parent’s deep dismay when I got home. And to make matters worse the florist sent the flowers to school the next day, leaving me awkwardly explaining the mix-up while holding a dozen roses, along with my overflowing backpack.

Matters went downhill in college. Dates would mysteriously disappear right before Valentine’s Day, making me wonder if I had just imagined them.
Things came to a head in my late twenties. I was a single mom intent on waiting for the right guy so most of my life centered around my son, work, church and a few good friends and family. Another Valentine’s was looming in the future and I decided “enough was enough”!
I could either dread the holiday or I could reclaim it and make it what I wanted. Why spend all my time disappointed?
I mean what’s not to love about little heart-shaped candies and treats, cute tins to put surprises in and shades of pink and red everywhere.
Valentine’s is about LOVE! One of the most wonderful things in the world.
And though it is typically for couples, couldn’t I celebrate Valentine’s too?
So I bought a package of cards and sent Valentine wishes to some friends and family. I invited some young ladies to my house for a yummy dinner, delicious dessert (chocolate fondue) and goodie bags. It was the best Valentine’s ever!!
Instead of waiting around hoping that a handsome man showed up out of nowhere and gave me flowers and chocolate (the good kind), I decided to spread some of my own LOVE to those I cared for in my life!
Since then, Valentine’s Day has become so much more fun. It is an opportunity to tell those I love that I care about them. And while I do appreciate being treated like a queen by my man, I have discovered that I can create some of my own happiness.
OK, so are you in??
Are you ready to FALL IN LOVE with your own life?
