Buy Her a Gift That Gets Her Creativity Flowing
I love being a mom. But no matter how young or old we are, as moms it can be hard to not lose ourselves in the role of motherhood. So sometimes it is nice to be recognized as simple ourselves.
Remind your mom, for Mother’s Day, of a former or current passion of hers! What does she love to do or used to to do for fun? Is there anything new she is currently interested in learning?
Pick up a book on one of the topics about which she is always talking! Show her that you truly are listening and want her to go after those things she loves! Buy her art or craft supplies or perhaps a gift card to her favorite craft store.
Last year, my mother-in-law purchased an instant pot. So as a gift I put together a basket including 2 instant pot recipes and all the ingredients she would need to make the recipes.
Share an Interest of Your Own on Mother’s Day
Are you madly involved in the latest exercise craze or loving a new natural cleaning product? Share your love with your mom or friend.
To me it is always great fun when my mom or friend shares something they are loving and doing differently. Bet yet, if possible include them in what you are learning.
Lat year, my friend asked if I wanted to join her at the library for a Pinterest craft night. Now, I’m not exactly crafty but I knew my daughter would love it and my friend would be there so I said yes. We all had the best time!
What are you loving right now?

Give the Gift of Time on Mother’s Day
In this day of social media, we may know WHAT someone is doing. But often we don’t know HOW they are doing!
Make time for your mom by planning an event or scheduling some time for you all to meet together.
When my daughter was young we started doing a Ladies Tea at our church. Ladies offer to host a table. We then decorate the table, sometimes using a theme, and invite our friends and family to join us.
It is so much work leading up to the event. But the actual event is a lovely time to relax, have tea and delicious goodies while visiting with our loved ones face to face.
Make time for your mom by doing one of the following:
- Go on a walk together
- Grab coffee or tea together
- Invite her to go shopping
- Go to a local museum or flower show
Share the Gift of Relaxation with Your Mom
Pampering our bodies is more than just making ourselves look pretty on the outside. Self-care reminds us to slow down and relax our minds too.
Give your loved one the gift of quiet reflection and renewal by giving the gift of relaxation!
When my mom turned 60, my Dad asked me for help surprising my mom. So I contacted one of her sisters and asked her to come for a visit that weekend. And then I set up pedicure appointments for that day.
The day of her birthday, I told my mom to meet me at the salon, and when she walked in I told her she was getting a pedicure. But when she went back to be pampered she was also greeted with her sister! Naturally, they had such fun getting their pedi AND just relaxing together.
Help your mom shed the worries of the week:
- Make her a homemade bath & body product (like this whipped body butter )
- Buy her a gift certificate to her favorite salon
- Put together a basket of some of your favorite beauty products
- Buy a gift certificate for a massage (so worth it!!)
- Purchase her a beautiful journal and some quality pens
Give the Gift of an Experience
One of my favorite gifts from my husband was years ago when he bought my mom and I a cooking class together. I LOVED getting out of the house and spending time with just my mom doing something I loved! And it was great fun learning cooking tips and tricks.
What would be an experience that your mom or friend would love? Is there something they have always wanted to learn?
One year, my husband and I treated ourselves to a tactical defense training. And while that is not a usual gift for a women, I really appreciated the confidence the class gave me. The class led us through various scenarios telling us the best decisions to make to protect ourselves and those we were around, based on real past situations.
Make sure your experience gift would be something your loved would enjoy but don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
Buy your mom a:
- Cooking class
- Pottery class
- Personal growth course like 15 Days to a Healthier You (Read about my experience here!)
- Blog Start-Up 101 course
- Audible subscription from Amazon
- Get Your Pretty On capsule wardrobe gift card (Read about my honest thoughts here)
- Tickets to a Homeschool Convention
- Concert or the local theatre
- Magazine subscription like Mindful
