If you want to look poised and graceful at all times don’t try anything new, right? This year has had its share of funny moments. OK some didn’t seem so hilarious at the time. Like why in the world is the update/save button on WordPress so near the PUBLISH button! Eeekk. That was awkward accidentally sending out half a post to my readers. But we have to laugh at ourselves sometimes. So I’m sharing bloopers and mishaps in the first year of blogging for your enjoyment:)
Bloopers and Mishaps in the First year of Blogging
Here are a few memorable moments in my first year of blogging.
Less Than Instagram Worthy Photos
Ahem…what was I thinking?
So when you are operating on a shoe string budget it is all hands on deck. So I often enlisted the help of my husband and daughter as photographers. How I envisioned it would look in the picture wasn’t always how it turned out.
And then there is trying to get the family to cooperate and look “happy and vibrant” when you take a picture! Sometimes they worked with me, but often they had their own ideas!!
“Does this look OK?” “Yeah, Mom you look fine.” Hmmm…just like I am about to be swallowed by a giant hale bale!
“Hey Kids! I want a picture for my blog of you all working. Hey, can you stop fighting for minute?”
“Seriously! Sweetie, stop making bunny ears on your brother!”
Finally!
The Photobomber! Hey, can I be in the picture??
And then there were the photos requests! “Mom, this would make a great Instagram photo.” Yes, I’m sure everyone wants to see us driving around with a whole bunch of deer heads…because it is so normal:(
“Honey, does this look good, like one of those cool Instagram wall pics?” “Oh Yes! Wait…what Instagram wall photos?” Hmmm…not exactly what I was going for…where am I even?
“OK, next time would someone tell me to move a little to the right so it doesn’t look like the waterfall is peeing on me!!”
Beware of the Emojis
On Mailchimp, they offer you emojis that you can add to your subject line. Which is great. It is very eye-catching and increases the likelihood that your reader will open your email.
Unfortunately, the emojis don’t always translate. Twice I have put an emojis that looks a little confused or embarrassed. But when it shows up in the inbox the next day it turns into a VERY MAD emoji! What?! I can’t even imagine what my readers thought:( From now on I think I will stick to just the smiling or sunglass emoji.

Anything can Happen on Facebook Live
Facebook Live is really cool and I have enjoyed using it. But it can also be nerve-wracking and anything can happen. Last winter, I was doing a 5 Day Challenge and my cat Duke kept showing up everyday for the Facebook Live sessions.
On Day 5 he decided to do a full on assault right on Facebook Live attacking my head. I so didn’t see that coming. Watch “Duke Attack”!! Go to minute 2:55 (to -3:35). It starts with a little pat and goes from there:)!! Cats!

Oh I think your pictures are so great. I love your Pinterest pins!

These are so great (and so true!) I can’t even begin to list all the things I goofed up. And it seems to more I try to do to look professional, the more I mess it up. (I’m trying to update my welcome sequence into two emails, I sent the second one to my whole subscriber list! ?Oops!) Oh well. At least we are learning and growing, right?

I love the blooper photos. That is actually one of my pet peeves, when people take a picture of you in a setting and then you see the photo and you are a tiny spec. Ahh, there’s nothing like learning the ropes in public 🙂 Congrats on your blogiversary Miranda!!

Oh my goodness! Some of these I’m seeing for the first time… I have to say that my favorite still is you being swallowed by the mammoth mound of hay;) If you’re ever in need of an impromptu photo session, you know who to call!
Miranda says
I know! That dumb hale bale picture. It looked like a great shot…in my mind! Yes, who else would be willing to hang out at the ER with me to take pictures:)
Anna says
How sweet!! Congrats on your first year of blogging—here’s to many more! ❤️
Donna says
That was perfect. It was real life and very funny! Thank you for bringing the truth of blogging to light! I totally understand, my cat does “butt” shots while I’m on the camera and in work meetings. And I’ve learned that my learning curve with blogging, SEO, and photography (just to name a few) is so steep I may see the top in ohhhhh say 20 years or so!
